EPC Girls Basketball Previews

With the season opening this Friday, we take a look at several EPC squads. We would like to thank all of the coaches and staff for their time in helping us put these together.

Allentown Central Catholic(18-10; DXI 4A champions, 2nd round of states)

Head Coach: Kathy Davidovich(2nd season)

Key Losses: Molly Driscoll, Armani Brickhouse, Sammy Roth, Abbey Kofroth

Key Returners: Milly Wolf, Annika Spinosa, Shamiya Roberts, Morgan Seagreaves, Claire Seagreaves

Key Newcomers: Aveline Bubnis(So) Samantha Polanco(So) Tatum Kofroth(So) Katie carbone(So) Emma molchany(So) Skylar Taylor(Fr) Gabby East(Fr)  Alyssa Hersch(Fr)

Season Outlook: We are very young and inexperienced playing together. We will need some time but I believe we can be competitive with these girls and I saw this over the spring and summer. Great group who has been putting the time in the gym. We do however have many multi sport athletes. We are a very athletic group and with Milly Wolf’s leadership as returning starter, I believe our girls will come together

Emmaus(17-12; 1st round of states)

Head Coach: Avon Mack(1st year)

Key Losses: Team Captains Mya Cooper and Taylor Griffith

Key Returners: Cassie Doemling – Sr. Emma Naccarato – Sr. Gabby DeVita – Jr. Kayla Synder – Soph. Olive Whitney – Jr. Sofie Laird – Sr. Sylvia Sokolofski – Sr.

Key Newcomers: Sierra Stevens – Jr. Sophia Shutkufski – Soph. Olivia Haberl – Fresh.

Season Outlook: We look to improve upon last year’s success through hard-work, commitment, discipline and defense with a number of key returners. We have the ability to score from the perimeter as well as in the post; it’s just a matter of us putting it all together and playing unselfish team basketball.

Our four seniors Cassie Doemling, Emma Naccarato, Sofie Laird and Sylvia Sokolofski have the ability to lead with experience. We need them to push this team to play selfless to achieve their full potential.  Kayla Snyder is primed and ready to take that next step to improve upon her freshman campaign and become a team leader. Although, we lost a lot with the departure of Mya Cooper and Taylor Griffith, we have two dynamic athletes ready to step in and take their place in Gabby DeVita and Olive Whitney.

Season Outlook: A lack of experience and consistency hurt us in the close games last year. With three returning starters, we are looking to reverse those outcomes. Beenders , a two time captain and one of the top point guards in the league, will be relied on to lead and the steady improvement of Raysely and Pecuch will be a much needed boost. Each year our team goal is to qualify for the playoffs, hopefully we can achieve that goal.

With having the experience under our belts now and with a great group of guards in Ava, Anijah, and Kendall this team could be special if we lock in and play together. The group is hungry and is determined to get over the hump after being in a district championship, making EPC semifinals, and making to the the district semifinals two years in a row. My staff and I are really excited about our journey to come this year.
