In a grind it out game between two heavyweight teams, the 14-3 Konkrete Kids and the 11-6 Liberty Hurricanes, it was Northampton who stood strong on their home court, improving to 15-3 on the season. Through huge efforts from Noah Walakovits and Leo Regec, the K-Kids offense was able to score timely baskets when needed, including 4 clutch free throws from Regec late.

The 1st quarter set the tone for the game as baskets were hard to come by and not until the 5:59 mark was the first basket scored by Liberty’s Luke Heffernan. However, Northampton would respond with 3 pointers from Walakovits and Regec, who started their hot night. Although, Liberty’s Jarrell Teague would counter this with two 3-pointers of his own. However, the leading scorer after one for Northampton was Brady Simock, who had 4 points with a 2 pointer and 2 free throws made. Teague would lead Liberty in scoring with 6 of their first 8 points.

The 2nd quarter was dominated by Northampton in every way possible. In fact, Liberty was shut out until the last 8 seconds of the quarter, when Quin Lucas Bishop hit a layup for 2 points, making him Liberty’s leading and only scorer of the quarter. The leading scorer in the quarter Walakovits with 4 points, bringing his total to 7 on the night that far. Him and Brady Simock were Northampton’s leading scorers at half with 7 points each. Teague was still the leading scorer at half for Liberty accounting for 6 of the team’s 10 total points.

The 3rd quarter saw Liberty come back to life as they had a balanced team effort and contributions from Teague, Heffernan, Jake Pukszyn, Samir Brown, and Quin Lucas Bishop. Northampton would continue to lean on Walakovits, as he had two 3 pointers that quarter, including one right before the quarter’s end, which was quickly countered by a hail mary 3 from Luke Heffernan as the quarter expired. The leading scorers for Liberty that quarter were Heffernan and Bishop with 3 points each, and the leading scorer for Northampton was Walakovits with 6 points that quarter.

The 4th quarter saw Northampton pull away, entirely through free throws, as Leo Regec hit 6 of them to ice the game. Walakovits, Ethan Raphaun, and Korbin Sollars combined for 5 more, bringing Northampton’s total to 11 that quarter and 41 on the night. Liberty’s leading scorers in the quarter were Bishop and Teague with 3 each. Walakovits was the overall leading scorer for Northampton with 15 points and Teague was for Liberty with 11 points.

Up Next, The K-Kids (15-3) travel to Nazareth Tuesday for a rematch with the 14-3 Blue Eagles. The K-Kids dominated them on their home court 62-45 back on January 6th. Up next for Liberty, who fell to 11-8 with this loss and another loss to Lower Merion yesterday night, is a Tuesday game @ Easton against the 4-13 Red Rovers.
