Notre Dame Green Pond Lady Crusaders Notch 1000th Program Win 🏆

1000 program wins–that’s a big number and milestones like that do not happen overnight. In fact, it took 55 years and ten different coaches. Starting with Irene Purdy in 1970-72 (11-32) and although the teams struggled the few seasons, starting in 1973 under Sister John Theresa 12-4 and followed up by Rosemary Mentesana Woodring (she was in attendance today)1974-76 (55-22) and the Lady Crusaders 1st District Championship and 1st Centennial League and 1st PIAA appearance. The program was off and running as one of the perennial favorites yearly, first in the Centennial than the Colonial League. Here is a list of Coaches (Traci Zarbatany Cyr, Nat Amato and Mike Kopp also attended today’s game)and their contributions, plus some of current head coach Josh Kopp’s (who has 383 wins) milestones. The game started with NDGP winning the tip, and getting the first couple baskets scoring 14 points, with 4 players scoring. SoLehigh only sank one basket and put up 4pts. And it was looking like an easy morning for the Lady Crusaders. But credit the Lady Spartans who outscored NDGP 16-13 in the 2nd quarter and closed the gap to 7, with Samantha Fontanez scoring 11pts, making the halftime score 27-20.

The 3rd quarter had NDGP putting up 13 points again with a balanced attack–four players scored in Ava Shonk 4pts, Ella Schweitzer 2pts, Sam Karwacki 3ptr and Ava Hobbie 4pts. SoLehigh’s Elena Druck 6 of their 7pts and now trailed NDGP 40-27 There was no quit from SoLehigh in the 4th qtr, they contested everything thing on defense and outscored NDGP 10-6, getting 5pts each from Eliana Marques (6pts game) and Samantha Fontanez who SoLehigh leading scorer 18pts, Elena Druck had 12pts for the game. The Lady Crusaders leading scorer was Ella Schweitzer 13pts, Ava Shonk added 11pts and Ava Hobbie 9pts for NDGP.

The Lady Crusaders next game is against Wilson and SoLehigh faces Catasauqua with a good chance of meeting each other again in the 1st round of the playoffs.
