Monday, 3/30:

  • Stroudsburg started off the week with a 4-1 win over Whitehall that kept the Moutnies undefeated. Stroudsburg had an early chance to break this one open when Madi Perez and Isabella Thomas led off the second inning with back to back singles. However, the Zephyrs turned the 6-3 double play, Josie Shultz to Jules Muth, to wipe out the scoring chance. An error at third base, though, gave the Mounties a 1-0 lead in the fourth, followed by an Ava Fagan-Huse single in the hole between first and second. Madelyn Vargas took the second pitch of the fifth inning deep to right for a 3-0 lead. Thomas put one through into left field that scored Dot Elko; Stroudsburg was in control 4-0. With two outs in the sixth, Whitehall had perhaps its next best chance–Morgan Laub singled and both Molly McFetridge and Amya Espinal drew walks. Kat Lavra caught a flyball in right for the third out and Whitehall was held scoreless. Vargas pitched a three-hitter and worked around seven walks. Morgan Laub allowed eight hits to Stroudsburg and walked four. Alyssa Dunbar came away with the lone RBI hit for Whitehall.
  • Palmerton stayed undefeated, moving to 5-0 with a 15-0 rout of Catasauqua. One outfield and three infield errors allowed four runs to cross. Grace Schneider ended the game in the 15-run rule with her 3RBI home run over the fence in center. Kyla Trumbore was 2-for-3 with 4RBI, matching the RBI output from Schneider. Hailey Barry allowed three base runners on two hits and a walk. She fanned six.
  • Jim Thorpe picked up its third victory, racing past Notre Dame East Stroudsburg 13-1. Gloria Strohl and Kylie Sullivan each had fourth inning 2RBI singles. The top four in the Olympians’ lineup accounted for six of the nine RBI in the game, including two from leadoff bat Hannah Zacharias. Maddie Schwartz struck out nine in a no-hitter, where the lone NDES run came from a hit by pitch and walk. The lone Notre Dame run was scored by Sarah Angelucci.
  • A back-and-forth affair went the way of Lehighton, 11-10 over Palisades. Kendra Leidtke was lit up for 12 hits and walked four Ava Trach was hit 14 times. Trach was responsible for the first run of the game for the Pirates, singling home Sophia Wise on a ball hit to left. Three straight RBI hits into the outfield by Nadia Wilt, Fiona Kelleher and Jordyn Bonelli were part of a third inning rally that saw the Pirates go up 5-1. But Trach came through again with a 2RBI double to left in the bottom of the inning, cutting the Lehighton deficit to 5-3. After falling behind 7-3, Lehighton rallied with two outs in the fourth, stringing together four hits and a walk. Brynn Mriss, Wise and Morgan Myers all drove balls to the outfield, each knocking in a run. Myers’ hit back up the middle in the sixth tied the game at 7-7 and an error at short gave Lehighton its first lead of the day at 8-7. Julianna Hershey and Catie Russo each had sharp hits that went to Wise at short in the seventh, resulting in a 10-8 Palisades lead. But the Indians weren’t done, as three consecutive errors in the field put the bat in the hands of Wise with two on. She launched a triple to center field, bringing Myers all the way around from first base for the game-winning score.
  • Northern Lehigh used a seventh inning rally to finally overcome Salisbury 5-4. Taylor Wagner sent a ball into center field in the first inning. The throw came home but was mishandled by Emilly Gad, resulting in the bases being cleared for a 3-0 Falcons lead. The bases had been loaded on two hits by pitch and a walk. Northern Lehigh loaded the bases in the third inning, but Tegan Simms lined out hard to short and the Bulldogs stranded three. Simms hit another hard one in the fifth, though, and tied the game on her 2RBI double into left. After two hits and a walk loaded the bases for Salisbury in the seventh, Leilanna Negron laced an RBI single to center field, putting Salisbury ahead 4-3. In the bottom of the frame, Fiona Jones doubled home Snyder to tie the game. She was scored batters later when Kenzie Chrusical put a ball in right field. Bother pitchers had their ups and downs, as Addy Smith walked five but struckout seven. Tessa Kemmerer walked six and fanned eight.
  • Northwestern Lehigh carried a 7-4 lead into the sixth inning against a very game Saucon Valley squad, before the Tigers exploded for an 11-run inning to make the final score 18-4. Abby Dunstan hit a solo home run in the first inning after Ella Bressi had scored on a passed ball. Molly Schlofer and Lily Kinnon went back up the middle for RBI hits in the third, pushing the lead to 5-0. Conner knocked in another in the fourth to make it 6-0. Trailing 7-0, the Panthers struck in the fifth on a bases loaded pitch worn by Ryan Gall. Savannah Schlegel knocked in two more, dropping one into right field. The never-ending sixth inning started innocently enough with a Bressi single down to first base and a drop at shortstop on a ball hit by Emma Freeman. Conner, Dunstan, and Schlofer then strung together 4RBI. With two outs, two errors and two more hits kept the pressure on and the runs crossing home plate. Dunstan finished 3/5 with 3 runs scored and 5RBI. Schlofer also racked up three htis for 3RBI. Conner scored three times and brought home two.
  • Six runs over their final two turns at bat lifted Southern Lehigh to an 8-4 win over Notre Dame Green Pond. Rachel Fisher put the Crusaders ahead 1-0 in the first, shooting one back up the middle to score Emily Szczepanski. Kelsey Bedics doubled home another and an error at first on a ball hit by Szczepsnki had NDGP up 3-0. Isabella Germani scored on a passed ball in the third, inching the Spartans within 3-2. Riley Palank launched a solo shot into left for a 4-2 lead in the fifth. The Crusaders responded by loading the bases in the bottom half of the inning and three separate errors along with a wild pitch saw Southern Lehigh tie the game up and then take a 5-4 lead. Lily Kelly doubled to center with the bases loaded and no outs for 2RBI. Kelly and Lewis turned a game ending double play. Delaney Young combined for five strikeouts and only one walk, navigating nine hits. Lily Kelly led the Spartans with 3RBI.
  • The Pocono Mountain East Cardinals made it two wins in a row, stomping over Pen Argyl 16-1. Peyton Zbylicki threw a one-hitter, striking out four, while collecting two hits and an RBI. Her sister Kaycee cracked a 2-run home run and also compiled a 4RBI day.
  • Kutztown took home a 7-1 victory at Schuylkill League opponent Schuylkill Haven. Cleanup hitter Jayden Gehris put the Cougars on the board in the first with her RBI single to center. Haven loaded the bases in the bottom of the first, but Savannah Follweiler picked up two strikeouts to put the inning to bed. Paityn Ziegler, in the bottom spot in the order, reached on a dropped third strike to open the third. Jade Fitzgerald then drew a full count walk to put two on. Flip Oldt doubled up the middle to chase them home and give the Cougars a 3-0 lead. Two batters later, Follweiler helped her own cause with a 2RBI double. The Hurricanes went three innings without getting a runner on base. Danica Snyder picked up a seventh inning RBI single, but it was far too little too late for Haven. Follweiler pitched six innings of nine strikeout ball, getting hit three times and walking one.
  • A 12-run first inning was far more than enough for Oley Valley to pass by Antietam 16-0. Anaya Brown got things started with a boom, cracking a 3-run shot over the center field fence; the Lynx were now up 4-0. Garcia then cleared the bases with her double to the barrier in left. Brown capped the first inning with a 2-run single to center. Four bases loaded walks in the two inning led to four more runs.
  • Hamburg cruised to a fourth straight win, leaving Berks Catholic in the dust 13-0. Eleven runs crossed in the first inning for the Hawks. Molly Krick bombed a grand slam to left after a bases loaded walk to Norah Davey. Krick racked up 6RBI on two hits. Madi Wessner and Mackenzie Hoover both added 2RBI.
  • Wilson West Lawn strung together its third straight win with a 5-2 victory over Conrad Weiser. The Scouts took an early 1-0 lead after Kramlich tripled to right and Aleena Martino brought her in on a sac fly. Caitlin Figarola’s sac fly scored Leah Berkis, tying the game in the second. Berkis hit a hot shot in the third with the bases loaded, but it was hit on a frozen rope to Sadie Berger in center for the third out. Consecutive doubles by Ava Futrick, Figarola and Shannon Bratton moved the Bulldogs ahead 3-1 before Ava Zerbe scored Etchberger on another two-base hit. As the Scouts built momentum in the fifth and scored off an error, Bratton came back with two big strikeouts to end the frame–she extended that streak to five in a row by striking out the side in the seventh to secure the victory.
  • Twin Valley continued asserting its presence in the BCIAA, moving to 4-1 with a 12-2 six inning performance over Daniel Boone. The Raiders broke open a 3-2 lead with seven in the third spurred by a Maggie Krall bases clearing double that made the score 8-2. • Tulpehocken evend up its record at 2-2, dispatching Wyomissing 11-3. Wyomissing actually had the early 3-0 lead in the top of the first, after Kylie Schoedler cracked a home run. But those three runs batted in would stand as the only ones of the day for the Spartans. Tulpy went to work in the bottom of the frame, wasting no time evening up the score. Zoee White brought home two with her hit to left. Forry brought her in on a sac fly. That would be the only scoring until Ember Sunday and Kiwak brought home one apiece in the fourth to go with a White RBI groundout. White led her team with 3RBI and seven other players got one each, showcasing hitting prowess up and down the Tulpehocken lineup. Molly Goldberg pitched a complete game with nine strikeouts, working around nine hits to give up no more than the lone mistake to Schoedler.

Eiswerth and Morgan Schwab both hit with two outs in the first inning to knock in key early runs. Abby Derr brought home Sydney Bennett in the third and the Hornets loaded the bases with no outs. However, Addi Smith buckled down and struck out three straight to keep Liberty in the game. But they would never really threaten, as the Emmaus defense was on point on its home field. Eight of nine Hornets recorded a hit in the win. In the game Addy Smith picked up her 300th strikeout to go with her 100th career hit last week.
  • Nazareth defeated William Allen 15-0 in five innings. Mikaila Brooks had herself a day, tallying three hits and a walk and striking out 14 Canaries. She pitched a one-hitter and walked none. Trach brought her in on a sac fly. Brynn Mriss tacked on two more with a ball to center field. Trach worked her way out of trouble a handful of times, dispersing eight hits and seeing the only Olympians runs score off an error.

A Elyssa Sellers walk and Madison Wyatt single in the fifth with one out went by the wayside, as well. The Panthers loaded the bases in the sixth and nearly went scoreless one more time, save for an error by Schuylkill Haven pitcher Allie Shirer. But, as is the case so often, a leadoff walk in the seventh would come back to bite the Hurricanes. Brooke Angstadt walked and moved to third on a wild pitch. Jillian Avery grounded out to first to bring in the run, cutting the Haven lead to 3-2. Ella Martin took the second pitch she saw to center for a single and Adalynn Casper walked to move the tying run into scoring position. Kaitlyn Steventon struck out the side in the top of the second and the favor was returned by Molly Goldberg in the bottom half. Tulpehocken continued to tack on, while not allowing the Bullets to get going. Goldberg finished with nine strikeouts, opposed by eight from Steventon. The difference was that the Trojans were able to compile 14 hits to just four for Brandywine. A replay of this game can be heard on the Eastern PA Sports Network HERE

The contest that began on March 20th was suspended after five innings due to darkness with the Blue Eagles leading 14-13. The marathon of scoring began in the first, as Taylor Friel launched a 2-out full count pitch beyond the left field fence for an early 2-0 Eagles lead. Lizzie Diehl scored on a passed ball in the second inning to get the Tigers on the board after the bases were walked loaded. Ella Bressi grounded one to center that was misplayed, giving Northwestern a 3-2 lead. Sydney Ryan’s 2-out 2RBI hit moved the seesaw back in favor of Nazareth, 4-3. Gianna Perillo and Mackenzie Grundy both got plunked in the top of the fifth–Friel made the Tigers pay, pounding a grand slam to move Nazareth ahead 14-10. Nazareth loaded the bases with one out in the top of the seventh on walks to Friel and Perillo, along with a single from Addy Schmittel. But Emma Freeman got a strikeout and a grounder from Grover to end the inning. The Tigers promptly loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning on walks to Diehl and Freeman and an Abby Dunstan hit. Lily Kinnon drew the team even on an RBI single to right. The Blue Eagles had bases loaded with one out in the eigth, but Kinnon snagged a liner off the bat of Makayla Ork to end the turn at bat. She walked three of the first four Slaters batters; a wild pitch and two errors quickly surrendered the lead, giving Bangor a 4-2 advantage.
