As we march closer towards the postseason, let’s recap one more week of the regular season and recognize as many young female athletes as we can!
Monday, 4/20:

- Central Catholic posted its second straight shutout victory, outscoring Allen 11-0. Skylar Taylor got thinks going for the Vikettes, beating out a throw to first that got away, allowing Eloise Brown to come in. Gianna Menecola provided a 2-out RBI hit to left for a third run in the first inning. Brown had herself a day, going 3/3 with 3RBI and two runs scored. All nine starters got a hit, scored a run, or knocked in a run. Jenna Dalyrmple struck out 11 Canaries in a five inning no-hit bid. In that 11, she recorded her 300th career strikeout as a Central Catholic Vikette!
- An 8-3 lead got away from the Golden Hawks of Bethlehem Catholic, as Pleasant Valley plated nine in the sixth on their way to a 14-11 barnburner victory. An early misplay in left field and a bases loaded walk put Beca up 2-0 out of the gate. Rylan Knapp provided a bases loaded hit in the bottom of the first frame, getting the Bears on the board. Walks to Emily Reyes and Morgan Ostrosky in the second provided two additional RBI for Isabelle Borsuk when she homered over the fence in center. Ava Dech followed up with a solo shot two batters later, extending the lead to 6-1. Borsuk went yard again in the third, bringing Ostrosky with her one more time. The offense then went quiet for the Hawks. The Bears loaded them up again in the fourth and Maddie Abbatiello’s walk forced in the fourth run. The Vikettes loaded the bases in the fifth, but Dech grounded out to first. Pleasant Valley took control in the sixth, as an error in right field cleared loaded bases for a 9-8 Bears lead, off the bat of Mia Battaglino. Knapp flew one into left to bring home two more runs and by the time the inning ended, the Hawks were in a 14-8 hole. Knapp finished 3/4 with 3RBI and Abbatiello was 1/2 with 2RBI. Borsuk’s two home runs netted her a 6RBI day.

Emily Materna plated two runs, as she and Thalia Burns each had an early RBI double in the first inning. Gabby Orsato scored three times and chased home two runs from her leadoff spot in the order.
- Liberty pulled away from East Stroudsburg South, taking a 13-2 victory back to Bethlehem. It was a close game in the early going, as Leah Onia flew one to left to single in Mikayla Seacor and Abbie Benner brought home Ava Tomaco n her grounder back to the circle. The Cavaliers tied things up in the second inning with Johannah Carey’s RBI hit to right and Emily Ehrhardt’s slap to left. The Cavaliers got two runners on in the third, fourth and fifth innings, but would not plate another. Meanwhile, the Hurricanes kept hitting–McKenna Beck went back up the middle to score two in the third, putting Liberty ahead 5-2. Onia and Addy Smith plated one each in the fourth as Liberty began to pull away. Onia capped the scoring with a 2-run home run out to center, finishing with four batted in. Smith worked around seven hits and fanned eight.
- In a game played at Patriots Park, Emmaus scored seven times in the final two innings for a 7-1 win over Whitehall. It appeared the Hornets would score early, with Taylor Hauver’s single up the middle and Abby Derr’s double into left. But with two in scoring position, Moran Laub got Mari Eiswerth to pop to short and struck out Morgan Schwab swinging. A leadoff Emmaus double in the second by Sydney Bennett was also squandered. Julia DeFanti and Autumn Tarbox were both struck out. Laub helped her cause with a one-out triple in the fourth, as her hit went to the fence in right and past the right fielder. Molly McFetride sacrified her home on a flyout to left. Emmaus stranded two more in the fourth, as Laub got Tarbox and Haileigh Gigliotti to swing and miss for two more strikeouts. Abby Derr finally broke through and broke the near literal ice on a cold night, sending a deep ball to left for a 2-run home run and 2-1 Emmaus lead. Derr was intentionally walked in the fifth to loaded the bases with one out. Whitehall paid for it, as Eiswerth banged home two runs. She ended her night with with those two big RBI and struck out 11 in the circle. Taylor Hauver had a nice night, going a perfect 4/4 and scoring twice.
- Freedom asserted its dominance atop the EPC and district 6A standings, blasting Stroudsburg 13-1 with four runs early and five late. Brooke Rummel delivered early, knocking in Landry Guman on a hit in the hole between first and second. Brooklyn Pronovich bunted back to Maddie Vargas–there was a play at the plate but Payton Besecker was safe for the second run. Freshman Christina Kish went up the middle to bring home two more with a big two-out hit. The top of the third brought more runs for the Patriots; Rummel and Pronovich each singled to open the inning, followed up by a 2RBI hit from Madi Bixler, bringing the lead to 6-0. Bixler fanned seven in a three-hitter and walked none. The win officially clinched a district playoff berth for Freedom.
- Giana Hudock’s 3-run home run to deep left was the icing on the cake in Parkland’s 16-1 thrashing of Dieruff. Ten runs crossed in the first inning as the Trojans pounded out eight hits and took advantage of four errors. Ami Patel knocked in three runs, while both Libby Pinkham and Addy Fritzinger bagged 2RBI each on a pair of hits. Hudock finished her day with 5 runs batted in. Lila Dawson joined Fritzinger for a combo one-hitter over three innings. They struck out a total of seven. Jennibel Cerda-Liz bagged the lone hit and run scored for the Huskies.
- Northampton kicked off a 3-0 week by overcoming a stiff test from Pocono Mountain East 11-7. It was a wild back-and-forth affair to start. Two early Cardinals errors got the Kids on the board, with Jospheine “Jojo” Siegffired crossing the plate for the first run. Leah Reagan delivered a bases loaded single into right to bring in two more. PM East countered with a Brianne Smith RBI single to center. A two-base error by Hannah Duerr allowed the Cards to tie it up at 3-3. The Kids went to town in the second, as Duerr atoned for her error with a 2-run double and stalwart Avery Deibert doubled her home. Northampton built an 11-4 lead on four plated by Reagan and a 2/4 3RBI day by Duerr. Nicolina Butz homered for the Cardinals, but it was too little too late. Despite walking six and giving up seven hits, Rylee Gable still managed to strikeout nine Cardinals. Karlie Jurasits fanned eight Kids.
- Brandywine Heights scored early and often in an 18-0 rout of Antietam. The Bullets piled up the runs despite only six hits. One of those was a first inning 2-run home run off the bat of Kaitlyn Steventon. Four bases loaded walks and a handful of errors brought home more. The Lopes were charged with ten errors over the shortened three inning contest. The combination of Steventon and Jenna Crist did not allow a hit, striking out seven. Kam Henry scored four times on three hits, plating three. Steventon and Lizzie Tomaine each batted in two.
- If we told you Daniel Boone scored 14 runs in their first two innings against Conrad Weiser, you might assume Boone blazed past the Scouts. Not so! The Scouts battled back ferociously, ultimately falling 17-12. The Blazers fell behind 2-0 in the first on an error at third before they started up the offense. A pair of walks and leadoff single from Eviana Bui loaded the bases with no outs. From there, eight of the next nine batters produced an RBI in one fashion or another. Arianna Krakowski tied the game with a deep flyball that landed in right. Kaylee Henderson ripped one through the middle to put Boone ahead 4-2. Bui, Brooke Washleski and Aubrey Garman came through with consecutive hits through the infield for a 9-2 lead. Macy Snyder tripled to the fence in the second to pull the Scouts back within 9-5. - Wilson West Lawn, coming off a nonconference loss to defending state champions Central Dauphin, responded by getting past Exeter 6-1. It was not the cleanest effort, as the Bulldogs had three errors, but holding the Eagles to two baserunners over the first four innings allowed Wilson to build a 5-0 lead. Shannon Bratton helped her own cause by doubling home Rylea Fick in the second. Fick and Ava Futrick led off in the fourth with a pair of singles. Bratton drove one into center for her second RBI of the game. Kaya Werley delivered the big hit of the inning, scoring two off a flyball into left. Bratton totaled ten strikeouts and two walks in a five-hitter. Rylea Fick went 3-for-3 and scored twice.
- Governor Mifflin and Muhlenberg needed eight innings in a wild 14-13 victory for the Mustangs. Bianca Ramos chased home Kaylee Jablonski for an early 2-0 lead. Things stayed quiet until the bottom of the second, when Raeya Hoover and Morgan Shultz kicked off the inning with free passes. Marina Guigley bunted and on a wild sequence, Hoover came home to score. Reilly Martin hit one out of the park for two more runs. Governor Mifflin took a 9-6 lead to the seventh inning, where all heck broke loose. Jablonski reached on an error to start the top of the frame. Madi Wentzel doubled to left to score her and Ramos did the same to move the carousel along. Olivia Grosch’s error at second on a ball hit by Ella Stettler put the Muhls ahead 10-9. Alyna Hernandez’ bunt single plated Mariah Herndon after a passed ball brough home another run. Entering the bottom of the seventh, the Muhls led 13-9. Reilly Martin came through again for the Mustangs, hitting a 2-run shot and Hoover’s long fly ball brought in the tying runs. Muhlenberg went in order in their half of the eighth. Claire Hoffman took advantage of a leadoff error in right field and sacrificed home Marina Guigley for the walk-off game winner. Impressive numbers were put up by both sides. Martin was 4/5 with 4RBI for the Mustangs and was joined with four more runs batted in by Hoover. Claire Hoffman also drove in four. Bianca Ramos led the Muhls with a 4/5 day and 3RBI.
- Hamburg drove home seven second inning runs in their 13-2 victory at Wyomissing. Wyomissing survived the first trip through the Hawks lineup with little damage, but Kylie Schoedler was hit the second time through. Kaida Chwatek placed one in right field for a 2RBI single. That made the score 5-0 before Norah Davey also line one into right for three bases and two batted in. Davey scored three times and was 3/4 with 3RBI. Brianna Mengel joined Chwatek with two batted in each. Molly Krick pitched five innings, giving up three hits and striking out three. Ava Epting pitched two innings and recorded her 100th strikeout as a Hawk(see photo below).
- Tulpehocken took care of business in a 11-3 road win at Oley Valley. Pitcher Molly Goldberg walked to leadoff the game and Ayva Campbell was right behind her with a popup that landed behind short. A passed ball moved both runners into scoring position, chased home by Livia Kiwak’s hit to short that was mishandled at first. Zoee white, Kylie Snyder and Julianna Forry all knocked in runs in succession to build a 6-0 Hawks lead in the third. Tulpy piled up 16 hits, while Goldberg navigated seven by the Lynx. Conner’s 3/3 3RBI day paced the Tigers. Makayla Bird prevented the no-hitter.

Tuesday, 4/21:
- For the second time in as many days, Catasauqua took one on the chin, falling 24-6 to Northern Lehigh. The Bulldogs notched an 11-run first inning to quickly bury the Riders. Gall notched her third RBI hit of the afternoon, scoring Kaylie Scorce for her 5th RBI. Seyfried ended the ballgame in five innings by flying one into right that brought home Gall and Rylan Best, triggering the ten run rule. Seyfried rattled off 12 strikeouts for the game and allowed just two hits.
- Tessa Kemmerer took a 1-2 2-out seventh inning pitch and deposited it over the fence in center for a walk-off 2-run blast, as Salisbury edged Notre Dame Green Pond 4-3. Riley Palank nearly put the Crusaders on the board in the first, tripling through the middle, but she was thrown out trying to go home. Julia Carney delivered the first run of the game in the bottom of the frame, doubling home Gianna Olds. Taylor Wagner and Julia Carney both reached to start the bottom of the fourth. Kaelynn Beers reached on a fielders choice to shortstop and Carney came in to score. Palank finally got the Crusaders on the board in the sixth on a home run. Nat Lilly put NDGP ahead in the seventh on a 2-out 2RBI smash to left. But it was Kemmerer who was the hero for the Falcons in the upset victory. From the circle, Kemmerer scattered nine hits and struck out five.
- Palisades saw leads of 6-1 and 8-4 go by the wayside, as Palmerton scored nine of the last twelve runs in a 14-11 road win. As with many big innings, the first for the Pirates began with a leadoff walk, this one to Catie Russo after an 11-pitch at bat. Julianna Hershey placed one in left and Russo scored on an E7. Nadia Wilt’s hard-hit ball to second landed her on base via an E4 and scored Hershey for the early 2-0 lead. Fiona Kelleher’s single up the middle plated two more before a pair of strikeouts by Hailey George finally put the inning to bed at 4-0. Trailing 6-1 in the fourth, the Blue Bombers got to work on their comeback bid. Kyla Trumbore singled on the third pitch of her at bat and Grace Schneider knocked one out of the park for a 2-run homer to get Palmerton within 6-3. In the bottom of the fourth, Hershey notched a sac fly RBI, scoring Catie Russo who had doubled to start the frame. Consecutive errors brought home another for an 8-4 Palisades lead. Hailey Barry walked to open the fifth and this time it was Trumbore who hit one beyond the outfield to cut the deficit to 8-6. Peyton Graver tied the game at 8-8 on a 2RBI liner into center field. The sixth inning hit parade continued when Jaylin Strohl went into center to clear loaded bases. Palmerton was finally back on top 11-8. Grace Schneider plated Strohl for good measure. Strohl and Schneider each finished the game with 3RBI and Trumbore was 2/5 with two batted in. Palmerton had a sloppy go of it in the field, committing eight errors that resulted in six unearned runs. Hailey George struck out seven despite getting roughed up for ten hits. Catie Russo scored four times in the loss on a 4/4 day with a walk. Hershey finished with a 3RBI effort.
- Pen Argyl pounced on Wilson Area via a ten run first inning on their way to a 15-3 win. The Green Knights got started with a free pass to Ella Bonatz. Elizabeth Horinko then hit Aubrey Dehart and Abby Scherer to load the bases with nobody out. Reagan Nittle walked on four pitches to force in the first run. Senior Ashlynn Oessenick drove one into left field for 2RBI and three more walks plated two more runs. As the lineup turned over, Bonatz cleared the bases on a liner into left. Dehart sacrificed her in. Oessenick’s third RBI of the inning came when she walked on four pitches with the bases loaded. Abby Scherer cracked a home run in the second inning, accounting for 3RBI and a 14-1 lead. Scherer went 3/3, scoring three times and plating four. Bonatz was also a perfect 3/3 and scored four times.
- For the second day in a row, Daniel Boone stacked up a 17-run day, this time zipping past Antietam 17-2. The Blazers racked up 15 hits one game after a 20-hit tally. Jersey Mazurek-Smith provided the first of many big hits, a 2-out double to left that scored Olivia Bentz and Lily Gonzalez. She would then steal third and score on a passed ball. Brooke Washleski scored two more, going back up the middle. Lily Gonzalez took a 2-1 pitch to deep center and out of the park for a 3RBI home run.
- Wyomissing broke open a 4-4 tie in the fourth with ten runs over their final two turns at bat to beat Conrad Weiser 14-4. Leiani Gonzalez opened the game with a single to left on the second pitch she saw. Caris Way then wore one to quickly get two on base. Kylie Schoedler continued the trend, swinging at a first pitch and whacking it to left for an RBI. Taylor Watts waited until her third pitch before doubling through center for the second run of the day. The game stayed 4-0 in favor of Wyomissing until four straight errors in the fourth gifted the Scouts momentum. With runners on the corners and the lead trimmed to 4-2, Cambria Mortland drove in Leah Giulian on a hit to right. Payton Kramlich sacrificed to center to bring in the tying score. With two quick outs in the bottom of the frame, it seemed unlikely Wyomissing would make anything happen. But Gonzalez was now on third after a fielders choice and a groundout. She came around for the go-ahead score on a passed ball. Caris Way walked and was scored by Watts for the 6-4 lead. Addison Lecher kept the inning going, roping one to left and Ellie George lined one to right field and right out of the park for the 3-run shot. That was the straw that broke the camel’s back and kept momentum with Wyomissing for the rest of the game. The lower part of the Spartans order in Lecher, Watts and George combined to bat in nine runs. Schoedler pitched to contact all day, striking out only one in a three-hitter. Wyomissing was able to work around seven self-inflicted errors.
- In what was to have been the season opener for both teams, Southern Lehigh defeated Pleasant Valley 13-5. The Spartans loaded up the bases in the first inning, able to push across one run on an E2 after Isabelle Witt hit a ball that went only a short way. Isabella Germani singled one home on a hit to left in the second inning. Rylan Messinger did the same to keep the Spartans parading around the bases. Two more came in off the bat of Witt for a 6-0 lead. Demi Lewis doubled to left in the third to chase home two more and the Spartans were well on their way with a 10-1 lead. Demi Lewis recorded her 100th career hit in the victory. Splitting time in the circle, Clara Detwiler and Delaney Young combined to fan 11 Bears and each was hit five times. Rylan Knapp shined bright for the Bears, going 4/4 with 4RBI.

Mari Eiswerth struck out eight Vikettes in a complete game no-hitter over five innings. Calise Eiswerth ended her day with 4RBI.
- Jaeyana Watson pitched a four inning one hitter with six Ks, as Liberty blanked Bethlehem Catholic 16-0. Two passed balls, two errors, and not one, but two 3-run blasts by Leah Onia were all the keys to the Hurricanes storming the Hawks. Onia stashed 7RBI away on the stat sheet. McKenna Beck batted in three and Addy Smith went 3/3 with four scored and two plated.
- The bottom two teams in the DXI 5A standings battled it out, as Pleasant Valley won its sixth of the year 10-8 over East Stroudsburg North. An 8-1 lead for the Bears nearly slipped away in the late innings, as the last seven runs of the game were scored by the Timberwolves. The Bears started off with three runs in the first, all coming with two outs. Maddie Abbatiello tripled home Rylan Knapp after RBI hits from Knapp and Emma George. A dropped third strike to Alexis McAteer allowed Alyssa Adrover to score and get the Wolves on the scoreboard. Emma DePalma provided another two-out hit in the second–a solo home run to deep right. Three more straight two-out RBI hits came in the third off the bats of Isabelle Hoffman, Emily Fox and DePalma. A leadoff walk in the bottom of the fourth would lead to Timberwolves runs–Jennika Doyle homered out to left, bringing North within 8-4. DePalma got yet another two-out hit in the fifth, providing some insurance at 9-6. In the bottom of the sixth, Doyle placed one in right field to score Adrover and Deutscher. But with the tying run on base, McAteer grounded out to third. Bella Altemose homered in the seventh for good measure and it would’ve been good for two runs if not for Abbatiello being caught stealing. As it stood, Altemose became the all-time leader in Pleasant Valley history for home runs in a season, with eight. North went in order in the seventh. In the loss, Jennika Doyle collected 5RBI and struck out seven. Abbatiello struck out ten Wolves and DePalma went 3/5 with 3RBI.
- East Stroudsburg South took it to Pocono Mountain West 19-2 in five innings. Both teams are battling for district and EPC playoff berths as we come down to the wire, and the Cavaliers took a big step. Mayla Mathew started off the scoring, singling in Jaedyn Learn before an error in left brought home Taylor Carey as well. Sarah Tsantker saw a wild pitch and passed ball go by her to bring in two more runs with two outs in the first, pushing the lead to 5-0. Taylor Carey would go on to scatter four Panthers hits and fan six. Seven Cavaliers batted in at least one run and the lineup distributed 16 hits all over the park. Learn scored three times on a 3/5 day. Josylnn Yurescko went 3/5 and scored twice. Joey Cappa was 3/4 and scored four times.
- In a score that turned heads around the Lehigh Valley, Easton led Northampton 4-2 going to the fifth inning. But then the Konkrete Kids awoke and pounded out nine runs in an 11-5 win. Emily Materna put the Rovers ahead 2-0 in the first, homering to deep center with Thalia Burns on base. An error and wild pitch in the second saw Northampton tie it up at 2-2. With two outs in Easton’s half of the second, the bases were loaded up for Gianna Koch. Her sharp hit went to freshman Kiley Henritzy at short who committed an error, allowing two runs to come in. Both sides stayed quiet until the fifth. An error by Henritzy’s counterpart Kailyn Castellano brought Henritzy up with Josephine Siegfried on base. Henritzy zipped one into right for a key RBI. Avery Deibert tied the game up two batters later, roping one to center and scoring Henritzy. Rylee Gable struck out the side in the bottom of the fifth. After taking a 6-4 lead in the sixth, Northampton found itself on top in the late innings with its first lead of the game. Rylee Gable worked around a solo home run to Castellano and Avery Deibert provided the insurance Northampton was looking for on her 2RBI deep fly to center. The Kids kept padding their lead and emerged with the wide margin of victory. Gable struck out 11 on the afternoon, while Siegfried and Deibert each batted in three.
- Early runs and tough defense held the fort for Freedom, as they traveled to Nazareth and returned with a 4-1 win. Maddi Bixler’s second inning double to deep center put two in scoring position and freshman Christina Kish came up aces, grounding one past second base for the first run of the game. After fouling three balls off in her at bat, Namelia Duro plated two morei n the third. Another freshman in Izabella Raynor went through center field for an RBI double that scored Duro. Initially, it looked like the Blue Eagles would respond in the bottom of the third. Carley Brown collected a hit and Gianna Perillo walked to put the first two on. But then the two freshmen, Raynor and Kish, connected on a 5-3 double play that beat back the Nazareth momentum. Bixler navigated four hits and struck out eight. The victory was the second of the week for the Patriots, as they try to retain the top spot in District XI 6A.
- Evelyn Hudak’s early 3-run blast kicked off a 15-0 Whitehall win over Dieruff. Fritzinger contributed with her offense, as well, bagging two hits and as many runs batted in.
- Stroudsburg cemented its spot at the top of Monroe county, defeating Pocono Mountain East 10-3 and getting within one win of qualifying for districts. Despite trailing early and giving up a home run to the Cardinals’ all-time leading home run hitter in Karlie Jurasits, the Mounties were able to storm back from down 3-1. With their own power from Dot Elko, Stroudsburg quickly took the lead back at 4-3. Her 3-run shot to left brought in Madelyn Vargas and Elsia Trotter. Wyomissing quickly loaded the bases in the first and the first run came around to score on a bobble at second base. Leiani Gonzalez put one through short to get the Spartans within 8-7, but the tying run was standed at third on a liner caught by Jenna Crist at first base. The Spartans loaded the bases in their final turn at bat with one out, but a pinch runner was thrown out on a force at home and Steventon struck out Paula Sanchez swinging to escape. It was only the second strikeout of the game by Steventon, but one of her biggest of the regular season to date.
- Fleetwood continued to roll through Berks county competition, run ruling Daniel Boone 16-1. The Tigers made solid contact from the beginning–Peyton Trexler doubled through the middle for an RBI, Sophia Breidegam tripled to left and Blair Rauenzahn chased one home on a triple. Trexler’s 2-out triple in the second extended Fleetwood’s lead to 8-1. Katelyn Yapsuga’s 2-run line drive to left tacked on the final two runs of the contest. Addy Casper helped her cause nearly immediately, tripling to the fence in right to drive in two early runs. The Panthers had begun the inning with consecutive walks.
